A masterplan study was undertaken examining several schemes for a new church and modifications to the existing community center to fulfill the current and future needs of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Community of London and Vicinity. At issue was the placement of the new church in relation to the existing community center, site access, and the architectural treatment of the church which must refer to the Byzantine era. The preferred scheme shown at the bottom connects the church to the community center with a glazed link. Behind the link are community offices, classrooms and washrooms. The addition to the community center creates a new point of entry and provides a grand foyer with an open mezzanine. The design of the church domes was inspired by the Hagia Sophia. |
