Temple Beth El

Flint, Michigan

E.B. Kalmantis: Responsible for Design and Project Management

Neumann/Smith Associates Inc.

The Temple Beth El congregation of Flint, Michigan sold its existing property to a neighboring hospital and asked the architects to design a synagogue for its new property.

The new temple is 11766 s.f. in area and is comprised of a chapel, social hall, resource center, classrooms, library, offices and support facilities.

The design of the temple facilitates flexibility in space use and seating. The Chapel has 103 fixed seats. A moveable wall at the back has a double track, permitting the chapel to expand and accommodate an additional 80 non-fixed seats. Beyond the moveable wall is the Social Hall with a seating capacity of 200. In the event that additional seating is required, the moveable wall can be repositioned to add 50 more seats.
