The growing popularity of cremation services as an alternative to traditional burial provided the opportunity to design a relatively new building-type based on the Owner's unique functional program.

TThe structure is set on a sloping triangular site located in the middle of the cemetery. Envisioned as a pavilion on the grounds, the facility is divided onto two levels; the upper level occupied by the chapel and the lower level, partially recessed into the slope, housing the crematorium. In effect, this configuration allows for the intimate scale of the pavilion structure.

A characteristic design feature is the peaked roof which appears to float above the walls below.
